The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK

The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK (IBCN UK) is dedicated to spearheading awareness, education, and research for inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer that makes up only about 2% of all breast cancers in the UK. Unlike more common types, IBC often evades early detection by mammograms and typically appears before standard breast cancer screening ages. It can affect both women and men, often beginning with redness or pinkness of the breast that deepens to red or purple as the disease progresses.

IBC is not confined to the skin; it spreads throughout the breast’s lobules, ducts, and lymph nodes, with its invasive nature blocking the lymphatics and producing the striking peau d’orange- the orange peel breast.

For over 200 years, IBC has been recognised medically, yet awareness among the public and even healthcare professionals remains alarmingly low. Our charity is committed to educating both communities, funding cutting-edge research, and providing vital support services to IBC patients and their families.

We believe that by shining a light on this “orphaned” disease, we can drive earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and ultimately save lives. Help us bring IBC into the spotlight and change its future.
